Cleaning, Painting, Preventive Forklift Maintenance, and Final Detailing

At Forklift Exchange, every machine tells a story. Some units come in needing mechanical attention, while others require a complete refresh to bring them back to a cleaner, sharper, and more professional condition. Recently, our team completed a refurbishment and maintenance job on a Versa-Lift 40/60, giving this heavy-duty machine the attention it needed from the inside out.

The Versa-Lift 40/60 is a highly versatile heavy-capacity forklift designed for demanding industrial applications. Known for its combination of lifting strength, maneuverability, and simplicity, this model is commonly used in environments where heavy machinery, oversized loads, and specialized material handling are part of daily operations. Manufacturer information describes the Versa-Lift 40/60 as a machine built for heavy loads while maintaining maneuverability, with the model remaining one of Versa-Lift’s top-selling units since its introduction in the mid-1990s.

Initial Job Request

The customer requested that the unit be thoroughly cleaned and prepared before additional work began. The machine needed to be degreased, washed, and stripped of exterior panels so the team could properly prepare it for painting. Once the painting process was complete, the panels were to be reinstalled and new decals applied to complete the job.

This type of preparation is an important part of any refurbishment project. Heavy-duty forklifts often operate in demanding environments where grease, dirt, debris, and general wear can build up over time. Proper cleaning and preparation help ensure that paint adheres correctly, panels fit properly after reinstallation, and the finished unit has a clean, professional appearance.

Work Performed – Refurbishment Services

In addition to the cosmetic refurbishment, the Forklift Exchange service team also completed a 2,000-hour preventive maintenance service on the Versa-Lift 40/60. This service included replacing key filters, ignition components, and other routine maintenance items to help support reliable operation.

The completed maintenance work included:

  • Replaced engine oil and oil filter
  • Replaced transmission filter
  • Replaced hydraulic return filter
  • Replaced hydraulic breather
  • Replaced fuel filter
  • Replaced air filter
  • Replaced spark plugs
  • Replaced rotor
  • Replaced distributor cap
  • Replaced ignition wires

Cleaning and Preparation

Before painting and final assembly, the unit received a thorough cleaning. Our team pressure-washed the chassis, mast components, wheels, and sheet metal to remove buildup from the machine’s exterior and working components.

The entire unit was also cleaned using dry ice blasting, a process that helps remove grease, grime, and debris from difficult-to-reach areas without leaving behind additional media residue. For heavy equipment refurbishment, this can be especially useful when preparing surfaces for paint and improving the overall cleanliness of the machine.

Painting, Reassembly, and Decals

Once the unit was cleaned and prepped, the exterior panels were prepared for painting. After the paint process was completed, the panels were reinstalled and new decals were applied to give the machine a refreshed, finished appearance.

The result was a Versa-Lift 40/60 that not only received important preventive maintenance but also left the shop looking cleaner, sharper, and ready to return to work.

Supporting Heavy-Duty Equipment for Demanding Applications

Machines like the Versa-Lift 40/60 play an important role in industries that require dependable heavy-capacity lifting. These forklifts are often used in applications such as machinery moving, rigging, manufacturing, steel handling, and other industrial environments where standard forklifts are not enough.

A refurbishment project like this helps extend the useful life of the equipment while improving both appearance and serviceability. Whether a machine needs cleaning, painting, preventive maintenance, repairs, or a full refresh, Forklift Exchange has the experience to help keep heavy-duty equipment jobsite-ready.
