WHY FORKLIFT EXCHANGE?

Why Marinas Across The Country Choose Forklift Exchange

Marina forklifts are not warehouse forklifts. A boat handler runs all day in salt air, lifts 30 to 60 feet into a dry-stack rack, then drops below ground to launch a yacht into the water — and one breakdown can strand a customer’s $400,000 boat in the middle of a busy weekend. That reality is why leading dry-stack operators do not buy from generalists. They buy from Forklift Exchange.

We are an authorized dealer for Hoist Neptunes, and also carry every major marina lifts brands on our used inventory. We also represent Ascom marina handlers, so we can match the right machine to your barn height, boat weight, and budget without pushing you toward a single brand.

Our Fort Myers office and warehouse anchor a Florida service network with road technicians in every major coastal city — Jacksonville, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Naples, Miami, the Keys — backed by 24/7 emergency response.

BUYER’S GUIDE

How to Choose the Right Marina Forklift

Match capacity to the heaviest boat in your barn
The single most expensive marina-forklift mistake is buying for the average boat instead of the heaviest. Buy a capacity that handles the largest boat you currently move or plan to move — if you cannot lift every boat in the barn with one machine, a breakdown can strand a customer’s vessel until a rental arrives. Properly sized machines also last longer because they spend more of their duty cycle in their sweet spot rather than at the limit.
Understand positive vs. negative lift
Positive lift is the height the forks reach above ground — used to slide a boat into an upper-tier dry-stack rack. Negative lift is how far the forks drop below ground, used to lower a boat into the launch slip and pull it back out. Both numbers matter. A marina with six-tier dry stacks needs 40 to 55 feet of positive lift. A marina that launches boats from a slip needs 8 to 12 feet of negative lift. Spec both before you spec a brand.
Plan for salt air and corrosion
Every marina forklift we sell comes with manufacturer corrosion packages — galvanized carriages, three-step paint, sealed electronics, marine-grade hydraulics — but the difference between a 10-year machine and a 20-year machine is the maintenance cadence after delivery. Ask any dealer about their long-term corrosion service plan before signing. (Ours is built into our annual contracts.)
Diesel today, electric tomorrow
Most marina forklifts in service today are diesel. That is changing. Quick-charge lithium-electric marina forklifts are now commercially available at the capacities marinas actually need, with lower noise, no diesel exhaust over your customers’ boats, and lower lifetime operating cost in many cases. If your marina is in a jurisdiction tightening emissions or noise rules — or if you operate near residential waterfront — we can quote an electric option alongside the diesel.
Don’t forget operator training and telematics
Marina forklift operators handle expensive, fragile loads in tight spaces. Manufacturer-certified operator training and modern telematics (impact detection, hours, location, fuel/charge) protect the boats, the operator, and the asset. Both are available on every new unit we deliver.

A Hoist Neptune marina forklift is a boat-handling lift truck designed for marina and dry-stack storage operations. Neptune forklifts are built for lifting, transporting, launching, and retrieving boats, with features such as operator-focused controls, visibility, corrosion protection, and rubber fork covering systems designed to help protect vessels during handling.

ASCOM boat hoists are used by marinas and boatyards to transfer, launch, retrieve, and move vessels. Available boat hoist options include self-propelled diesel or electric models with features such as marine-grade coating, steering systems, sling block adjustment, synchronized winches, load detection, radio remote control, and remote assistance.

ASCOM gantry cranes are used for heavy vessel handling and industrial lifting applications. Forklift Exchange offers ASCOM solutions such as rubber-tired gantry cranes, straddle carriers, rail-mounted gantry cranes, and semi-gantry cranes, depending on the application and site requirements.

ABI trailers are used for boat handling, transfer, and launching applications in marinas and boatyards. Available features may include hydraulic variable width, hydraulic pads, remote control, sailboat pad extensions, remote assistance, soundproof engines, and customizable configurations.

Yes. Choosing the right marina forklift depends on the heaviest boat you need to move, dry-stack rack height, negative lift requirements, launch area design, aisle space, corrosion exposure, fuel preference, and budget. Forklift Exchange can help match the right machine to your barn height, boat weight, and operating needs.

The correct capacity should be based on the heaviest boat your marina currently handles or plans to handle, not just the average boat in your facility. Buying for the largest expected load helps prevent equipment strain, downtime, and situations where a customer’s vessel cannot be moved because the forklift is undersized.

Positive lift refers to how high the forks can reach above ground level. It is important for dry-stack marinas because the forklift must be able to place boats into upper storage racks. The required positive lift depends on the height and tier count of your dry-stack storage system.

Negative lift refers to how far the forks can lower below ground level. This is important for marinas that launch boats into slips or water-level launch areas. A marina forklift must have enough negative lift to safely lower and retrieve boats from the launch area.

Marina forklifts operate around salt air, water, humidity, and harsh outdoor conditions. Corrosion protection helps extend equipment life and reduce downtime. Forklift Exchange highlights features such as galvanized components, multi-step paint processes, sealed electronics, marine-grade hydraulics, and ongoing corrosion maintenance plans.

Yes. Forklift Exchange can quote electric marina forklift options alongside diesel models. Electric marina forklifts may be a strong option for facilities focused on lower noise, reduced exhaust around boats and customers, and changing emissions or waterfront operating requirements.
